Known for his raw, yearning vocals that define his indie soul-pop sound, Yellow Days is the alias of British musician George van den Broek. His musical journey began when he received a guitar as a Christmas gift at the age of eleven. Influenced by Ray Charles, Mac DeMarco, and Thundercat, he started releasing independent singles in his mid-teens, around the end of 2015 (he was born in Manchester in 1999). However, it wasn’t until November 2016 that he released his debut EP, Harmless Melodies, which paved the way for his first full-length album, Is Everything Okay In Your World? (2017). This record significantly boosted his career and featured a collaboration with hip-hop artist Rejjie Snow. That childhood guitar had certainly paid off.
In 2018, Yellow Days gained further recognition thanks to the success of two songs: Gap In The Clouds (originally from his debut EP but revived after being featured in the second season of the TV series Atlanta) and The Way Things Change. Off the back of this momentum, his U.S. tour that year quickly sold out.
Two years later, having relocated to Los Angeles, he released his second album, A Day In A Yellow Beat (2020). In 2022, inspired by the pandemic, he followed up with a trilogy of EPs—Slow Dance & Romance, Apple Pie, and Inner Peace—all framed within a psychedelic soul aesthetic.
His latest album, Hotel Heaven, was released in April 2024, followed by an expanded edition in August, titled Hotel Heaven (The Holiday That Never Ends) [Extended].
