Hailing from Yorkshire, but with roots in South London, Deadletter channel the fury of The Fall and the wonky rhythms of LCD Soundsystem into a variety of vehement post-punk, exploring the darker side of existence through a narrative-driven lens of levity.

Having been friends for years, there’s an instinctive understanding between them of the danceability of their music, something that’s worth its weight in gold, without cheapening the nuances and determination of their sound. Oh, and as the highly-regarded broadcaster Steve Lamacq, of BBC Radio 6 Music, has said, “next time someone says to me ‘why don’t young bands write about politics anymore’, I might just play them Deadletter”. Incidentally, in 2021 one of their singles was “Tip Of The Week” on BBC Radio 1. In 2022 they released their debut EP, “Heat!”. And while they were preparing their first album, in 2023 they released two new songs, “The Snitching Hour” in March and “Degenerate Inanimate” in July.

Finally, in September 2024, that long-awaited debut LP, “Hysterical Strength”, arrived, and it didn’t disappoint. On the contrary, it has exceeded all expectations, and those were already high given their precedents. Here are some of the reviews it has received: “Propels post-punk to its most exhilarating heights” (Les Inrocks), “Excellent” (Sound Of Violence), “Unique and singular” (Mowno), “Irresistible” (NME), “A monstrously good debut album” (NARC Magazine), “Sensational” (Wonderland), “A high-octane, full-throttle debut album that grabs your attention from start to finish” (Dock).
